Awake & Bake

Javaya & Brewpass bring you Chicago’s first coffee and pie festival and…it was completely free (yes, that’s right…it cost nothing, but possibly your time standing in line). Per their Eventbrite page, “Awake & Bake brings together two of your fave’s – the BEST local craft coffee and pie that Chicago has to offer….and we’re pairing them together so you don’t have to!”

Quick note about these two sponsors:
Javaya is your go-to place for craft coffee beans. You get to set Future Fresh date for delivery, the beans get roasted THAT day and then sent out for delivery to you. It could not be any more freshly roasted than that. Check them out if you’re loving yourself some delicious coffee that’s not mass produced.
Brewpass is the coffee equivalent of MoviePass. One free coffee a day a local coffee shops vs your big retail chain shops. They even have different subscription models depending on how much coffee your body demands on a daily basis.
There was also an award for best in show aka best coffee and best pie. My personal favorites were Sputnik’s cold brew and Roeser’s Bakery (I had key lime (my fav) and tried some of the banana, which was better than expected).
The coffee vendors included: Abacus Coffee, Bridgeport Coffee, Colectivo Coffee, Kyoto Black, Littlefoot Coffee, Metropolis Coffee Company and Sputnik Roasters.
The pie vendors included: Ampac International, The Fix Pies, Imani’s Original Bean Pies, Linda’s Magic Brownies, Roeser’s Bakery, and XO Marshmallow.
Other vendors included: Elmhurst Milks, Essentia Water, Sparkling Ice, ActionBooth, The Beard Corp, Iiimagine Face Painting, GetAround, On the Spot Photo Magnets and Zap Props.
Some live entertainment was provided by: DJ Tettai and Megan & the Jewels. There was an adult pie eating contest, along with a children’s pie eating contest. And all of it was brought together by Alex Shebar.
The whole event was held at The Chop Shop. It was a great set-up. They didn’t allow a ridiculous amount of people in all at once so the amount of people was manage-able. The one thing that was a little bit of a let down was that there was not enough pies to last the whole event. Roeser’s, I believe ran out first. It explains how they one; they were just that good. I’ll definitely be stopping by and checking out what else they have at their bakery.
Iiimagine Face Painting was there on the second floor which was pretty cool. They did glitter tattoos AND face painting. The few kids that were there thoroughly enjoyed that. I got myself an ombre glitter tattoo of the Magic Kingdom. It’s magically and will last me about 3-5 days. The lines were long and the pies ran out, but it was a fun event. All in all, it was well executed. Here’s to hoping there’s another one next year.
