New Adventures in 2020
Hello to the few who probably actually read my blog, but if there’s even more of you than just a few…then Yay!
So, 2020…who could’ve expected where we currently are today? Well, maybe some of the world could’ve seen this coming…or a lot of the world, who knows. What I do know, is that this is not where I’m supposed to be. I had some big plans for 2020.
I’m not sure how many of you already know, or have heard, but this was the year I was going to move. In case you didn’t already know, I’m currently in Chicago. I’ve been here for about 3 years, but I had felt that it was time to move on and find some new adventures. I was planning my adventures to start summer to early fall. Due to some unforeseen circumstances (not COVID-19), my timeline moved up a bit.
Back in February, after making it through a crazy new year (not really, but I had a fantastic NYE with Summer), I got laid off. The company was downsizing due to some internal organization restructuring and I was deemed redundant (that’s what I’m going with anyway). So, I had the option of working for the next two weeks or just being done. Because of some other circumstances, I decided to work for a week and take the 2nd week off. Never in my life had I taken time off between jobs. How crazy. I’d always ended one job on a Friday and started the next on a Monday. I had time to take off now and no emails to get back to.
I told my friends what was up…and had decided (I got laid off on a Thursday) to take the weekend for some peace of mind and to just enjoy myself. I didn’t realize that people would ask me what I was going to do next once I told them. Oops. I didn’t know because I was resolute to not think about it. As I tried not to think about it, a plan began to formulate.
2020 was the year I was going to move to Thailand (and for the next 2-7 years). Don’t ask me how I came upon my length of stay, it’s all arbitrary and random, but it felt right (I’d previously said 2-5 for New York and Chicago). And instead of my previously mentioned timeline, we (being me and my things) were moving much sooner (months sooner) because why sit around for a couple months when I could just do it now.
Plane tickets were both, hotels/AirBnb (because I was going to treat myself a little bit) were booked…and then COVID-19. So, to say the least and at the moment, my trip/move is postponed indefinitely until travel restrictions and bans are lifted and the world is a little safer.
For now, I’m in an isolation-ship/quarantine-ship with one of my best friends in Chicago both “working from home” or more so, she’s trying to work during a pandemic. I’m doing things to keep busy and job hunting, though many companies are in a hiring freeze and service workers have been laid off and all sorts of other things are going on.
Let’s just saying I still thoroughly enjoying my Netflix and I’m working on learning a new language. I’ve also been eating dumplings and Indian food and it’s been DELICIOUS!
More updates to come!
