A New Year…

…no new me, just more of the me that is!

I’m sure like me, you’ve heard of the adage, “new year, new me”. But, does there really need to be a new you? Can’t we just keep being our awesome selves? We can improve ourselves sure, but by being someone completely different…is that even our true selves?

Thoughts that go through my head. This year, there will be no “resolutions” per se. I’m not great at setting them anyway. In most cases, I don’t set them. But I think in the last two years, according to my bullet journal, I gave it a shot. Instead, I’ll continue to do what works for me and that is doing a different “thing” each month.

For me, January and February are generally set and I do the same things for these two months. For January, I take a moment to post a photo each day on Instagram. This marks my 10-year anniversary of doing this. It started because I wanted to take a moment and just find beauty in the world around me. It’s pretty much taking the time to “stop and smell the roses”. I started doing this because I was in the middle of New York City, a busy…busy city where it is super easy to just continue forward and not realize what we have.

In February, I always make it a goal to write one Yelp review a day. It is something that allows and forces to get into the habit of writing everyday. Writing something at all is better than not writing at all, which has led to some cool statuses. For example, in 2021, I’m a Yelp Elite for the 10th year (whoo! black badge), Google Local (Level 7) and a Couchsurfing Ambassador.

So, that leaves the other 10 months. Those goals are really dependent on whatever is going on in my life. And to be honest, most of the time I don’t keep up with the month-to-month goals. But, regardless, every year I still try to keep it up. I generally have a month where I say who I’m grateful for…to remember to tell the people I love that I love and appreciate them. I’m sure I do not do this enough. There’s also usually a month where I do the Whole30 and reset my digestive system.

If I were to say I had a resolution this year, it would be to finally make it to Thailand…a year later than originally planned. And another running goal for probably the last 3 years, was to reach 1,000 followers on Instagram through organic group. I’m close and I’m almost there and I’m sure I’ll get there one day. I’ve been gaining about 100 a year for the past two years so I’d say that’s still an accomplishment. And on top of that, I created new Instagram account and started a YouTube channel.

So, here’s to 2021 and creating more content! What do you guys want to see?
