Life Update: Chiang Mai

Hi there!

I just realized my last life update was my 14 days in quarantine. Oops. Sorry. I’ve been here for over a month now…and at this point, it’s almost been two months (I landed here 12 Feb). I did upload a couple videos of my time here so far (and at this point, I’m about 2-3 weeks behind in editing). And to be honest, I’ve been procrastinating, but I swear I’ll get back to it. As of right now, I’m about to embark in the chapter of my time here.

So, after my 14 days in quarantine, I spent 2 nights in Bangkok instead of heading straight up to Chiang Mai. It was my friend’s birthday that weekend, so I wanted to spend some time with her…and you know, meet her. And I did, meet her that is, when she picked me up to go walk around the mall and grab some food. We had a good time that weekend, real chill and I got to hang out with her family. (This will all be in another post).

After hanging out for the weekend, they dropped me off at the airport for the next chapter of Operation: Move to Thailand. I was headed up to Chiang Mai to hang out with Lydia’s parents for the next month or so. I didn’t really have any plans while I was there, but I also had ton of time to spare to see and do things. Crazy enough, my first week was crazy busy. After that, it slowed down bit, which was nice. The weather has been hot and the air has been bad.

My first meal in Chiang Mai with Lydia’s parents:

My Life Time (so far):
12 Feb – Arrive in Thailand
26 Feb – Freedom from quarantine
28 Feb – Head up to Chiang Mai
3 Apr – Back to BKK (Bangkok)

So, what have I been up to while in Chiang Mai. I’ve been hanging out with my friends, eating a lot of delicious foods (night markets and restaurants, and even take out) and going to a lot of temples (my mom would be proud). I’ve also been to a ton of cafes. So, who have I been hanging out with…my friends. Yes, I’ve got them. Two of my friends are actually from Bangkok and were up here on holiday. So, I’ll get to see them again once I’m back in BKK.

So, here are the different temples I’ve been to:

Here’s are some of the foods I’ve eaten:

I was told that I was visiting CM at not the most optimal time. It’s burning season here. What that means is that the outer villages (where there are farms and such) and neighboring countries are burning their crops to make way for new crops. There’s not space leave them to decompose and because farming has becoming so commercialized so there’s pressure to produce as much as possible, as fast as possible. This in turn amps up the pollution levels and puts a haze over the city.

Not the best time to be in CM, but still a good time was had.

My Chiang Mai highlights all revolve around hanging out with my friends:
1. Not dying while Min is driving the scooter
2. Finally making it up to Doi Suthep and having a food filled day with Katune
3. Eating so much goodness and hanging out with Praew and New (the best being the homemade soba)
4. Getting ice cream with Lookpad and Beam

On days where I don’t have plans, I’ve been editing (or not editing) my videos or drawing. I’m still watching a ton of TV. And during the hottest part of the day, I’ve been laying like a starfish and trying to avoid turning into a puddle of Baramee goo. Onto the next adventure (but I’ll post about BKK Part 1, first).
