Burger Club: September

Liz, Katie, and I started a burger club. Why? Because the city is chock full of great burgers, and you gotta start somewhere. We decided twice a month was a good amount of time to meet and would allow us to crave burgers. The two places we went to this month were: Mott Street & The StopAlong. Katie and I did most of the research and we have a list that should last us a while. Katie works in the industry so she did some industry research…I did my foodie Google research. We have a pretty sizable list now.

Mott Street

We ordered more than just the burgers. We chose this as our first official burger spot (also where we decided to create the Burger Club) because none of us had had this burger before and it’s quite well known in Chicago and talked about.

What we ordered:
Mott Burger (Only Available until 7:00pm) $25/Egg +3
*1/2 lb. burger – double chuck patties, sweet potato shoestrings, hoisin aioli, pickled jalapeno, dill pickles, miso butter onions, american cheese (no sides included)
Crispy Chili Cauliflower
*sweet & tangy glaze, Birds Eye chili, szechuan peppercorn, coriander
Brussel Sprouts
lamb pancetta, maple brown butter, peanuts
Summer Salad
*tomato-based salad

The Review:
The Mott Burger is a treat burger. A burger you would eat when you want to treat yourself. It’s a big burger and actually quite heavy. After eating half, I was already feeling quite full, but it’s not the type of burger that would reheat well. But, we also did have some appetizers to share (which were super delicious). I don’t think I would necessarily get this burger again, but I’d definitely go back to Mott Street to try some of their other food. The cauliflower was recommended by the server and it was EVERYTHING. We all agreed that it was probably the best thing we had. It’s also better hot and fresh versus after it’s cooled off.

The StopAlong

Originally, we were going to try to go to The Loyalist, but the decision was a bit last minute so we went with comfort style burger. This is a burger I’ve had, but Katie and Liz have yet to have. I was craving The StopAlong since I’ve not been in years so I was excited to try it again.

The Stop-In $17/Bacon +3
*double cheeseburger (smash burger) with american cheese, caramelized onions, pickles, lettuce, tomato, special sauce, on a brioche bun (served with fries)

The Review:
It is exactly what it is. It’s a straight-up smash burger. It’s not overwhelmingly special, but it does hit the spot. It looks big in size, but it’s the perfect amount of filling. We didn’t feel stuffed afterwards and the fries that came with it were a generous amount, but also delicious. It’s a burger that would satisfy your craving, but not necessarily a burger you would specifically seek out.
