New York City 2025

It was a last minute trip (kind of); it was definitely not pre-planned. The planning time was maybe all of two weeks. There were multiple reasons for the trip, but because of the short notice, there was no time to plan anything with the crew. Reason one for the trip: I haven’t been to NYC yet this year. Reason two: proximity to Philly (where Bin, Jin and Rin are). Reason three: I didn’t get to see Sue last time. Reason four: I just enjoy NYC.

I booked this trip in the midst of a government shutdown…so if things were delayed or canceled, I wasn’t going to be too surprised. My flight there wasn’t too bad. No issues. In fact, my basic economy seat was upgraded to comfort plus because they needed to balance out the plane. On top of that, one of the flight attendants stopped by and thanked me for flying with them and being a member of Delta SkyMiles. It was so nice. The not so awesome part, the flight arrived at JFK so the commute into Brooklyn was a long one. When I arrived in NYC, it was cold and rainy. I didn’t have many plans so I hermitted the first 4 days. Jin and Rin were supposed to come on Tuesday, but had to postpone their trip for a couple days.

I finally left the apartment on Wednesday to have dinner at Win Son (it was on my list) with Anthony. At Win Son, we ordered: chicken wontons, pan-griddled pork buns, scallion pancakes, and sesame noodles. Win Son is Taiwanese-American food and it was delicious. I definitely want to check out their bakery next time.

It was a lot of chill and a lot of work the week I was in NYC. Friday, Anthony accidentally double-booked his place and I ended up going to Sue’s, which was perfect because we had plans to hang out that day. Originally it was supposed to be just dinner, but it became a whole afternoon-evening affair. After work, she met up with Jin, Rin and me at Central Park. We had some good noms and some good drinks. It was a good day. Sue and I did have our own little dinner at KPOT (where we did the hotpot and the grill).

Saturday, I made my way back to Brooklyn to catch a ride with Anthony to LGA. And this is where the government shutdown affected me. My flight was first delayed 30 minutes, and then it was delayed pretty quickly, another 30 minutes. I made my way to the Chase Sapphire Lounge to kill time, have some noms, and enjoy some drinks.

Next time, I’ll definitely plan further in advance. Gotta see my crew after all and we have 2 new babies in the mix as well. Totally ready to be the traveling auntie.
