Burger Club: January

We didn’t actually have a Burger Club meeting in January. Therefore, it’s an unofficial Burger Club meeting. One of the burgers at the top of the list is the burger from Armitage Alehouse. And as I said in my Restaurant Club post (it’s insanely hard to get a reservation – or I at least alluded to this). Katie and I (without our more flexible lives) were able to get lunch reservations for right when they opened at 11am.

So, I didn’t know much about Armitage Alehouse other than it was quite popular and had a pretty damn good burger. I learned to find exactly why it was so popular. It’s a bigger space than I thought. The decor is super cute (think fancy British pub with fancy restaurant vibes). We both would’ve been happy sitting at the bar, but I was super glad we didn’t. We ended up at a regular table in the backroom, but asked if we could move to the even fancier table (leather, high-back armchairs – next to the fireplace).

I was set on getting the burger, but upon being told they were British Indian fare and that’s what they excelled at, I was swayed. The samosas also sounded good as did their fish and chips and potpies. It was so hard. They also have really good cocktails. Katie and I each got a cocktail (I got the penicillin). Then we decided it might be in our best interest to split our entrees. She chose the spiced lamb potpie (with bone marrow in the middle – great to eat with the crust). I got the burger (it’s a smash burger).

Long story short, I cannot wait to go back and try more things. It was so very delicious. It was worth every penny. I would even go so far as to say their burger is definitely better than The Loyalists’ burger (but maybe that was just overhyped). I say it’s better because even though it was a smash burger, it wasn’t dry and you could definitely taste the quality of the meat (and the cheese was evident and delicious fries).
