Camping Adventures

…and just like that I found my self going on a 2-night camping trip to Ludington, MI. It was the last of the summer (let’s get real, we are well into October, but there were a couple of Indian Summer days). Our plans to go were made on a Saturday and we embarked on our adventure on Monday morning. Ludington, MI is about 4.5 hours away…so let’s just say it took us about 5 hours to get there…because food.

Our first stop after packing all our gear and finally getting on the road was in the town of Holland, MI (it’s a little Dutch village and adorable). We stopped for lunch at Crane’s in the City. I wanted a BLT, but I couldn’t not get the fan favorite. The fan favorite was the City Cristo sandwich. It had: turkey, provolone cheese, slices of apple, honey mustard dressing, toasted on Apple Butter bread and sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar. My picture doesn’t really do it justice because I ordered it to go, but it did come with kettle chips and a pickle. It kind of tasted like a turkey and cheese sandwich made with French toast for the bread…the apple slices were nice to cut the sweetness a bit. It was good, but I probably wouldn’t get it again. I also got fresh cold apple cider and an apple cider donut (which was super moist and a little doughy, but good).

When we finally go to the campsite, it was raining a bit so we went for a supply run first and came back to a dry campsite. Whoo. Time to set up and set up and chill and have dinner. We also saw remnants of sunset. So below are some pictures from our first day/night.

It was cold that night and took a bit to fall asleep (and not have our faces freeze off. But the next day was a day filled with hiking and dicking around. But that is what makes hiking with friends so fun. So a small photo dump of the highlights from day 2 are below.

Night 2 was much warmer than Night 1, but morning 3 was just as cold as Night 1 and what woke me up. Oh well, onwards to breakfast pho to warm me up. We got a slow start and by the time we go around to maybe heading out, it was a better idea to pack up first. My legs were TIRED, but I was ready to check out the lighthouse. One last hike before heading towards home.

A beach dunes hike is not so easy…sand in general is not easy to walk in. It was great fun regardless of the cold. I would maybe go when it isn’t as cold. We had lots of fun dicking around…I took a ton of pictures. We caught beautiful cotton candy skies. We climbed tries. We tried to catch chipmunks. We saw many black squirrels and possibly even a wolverine (we are in Michigan after all). We found ourselves some blueberry donuts (which kind of tastes like a blueberry muffin).

Where to next…?
