Life…No Longer on Pause

Thailand
I’m not sure I dare to even write this post, but I’m so excited (with a hint of anxiety). I looks as if its possible for me to actually go to Thailand (finally, after 9 months of waiting for a slightly safer world situation. I looks like we’ve made it through the “second wave”, but now there are other issues with this pandemic. A bunch of different variations are popping up all over the world. I can’t even keep track of it. I can barely keep up with the numbers in the US, so I just focus on my own city as that’s the most relevant number…that and the numbers of my destination.

So, I’m not sure if you remember, but back in April of 2020, I was supposed to make the big move out to Thailand. For how long you asked…for the next 2-7 years. I can’t explain the length of time thing, as that’s just my gut feeling. It’s just like the gut feeling I had for NYC and Chicago (both 2-5 years…and I bounced within that time frame).
My countdown for Thailand is no longer TBD. It has an actual date and time. And the countdown is down to single digits. Whoo! I was aiming for May/June, but the date is much sooner because the country opened up a little bit more. It was quite the journey to even get to this point, but here we are. The last hurdle is the 72 hours leading up to my flight departure. In those 72 hours, I have to obtain a Fit-to-Fly Certificate and a negative COVID test. Prior to those to things, I had to get approved for a VISA and obtain a Certificate of Entry. In which case, I had to book an inbound and an outbound flight as well as pay for a quarantine hotel.
I don’t hear great things about the food at the quarantine hotel, but that’s okay. It’s just 14 days…in a 350 sq. ft. room. As long as I have WiFi, I think I’ll be okay. The place is about as big as my Chicago studio was +/- 100 sq. ft. After my quarantine stay, I will hang around Bangkok for a couple nights to hang out with my friend (it’s her birthday weekend when I get out). Then it’s up to Chiang Mai for the next month or so. It’ll be my first time there so I’m excited. Lydia tells me there is tons I must do and see there.
Also, although I’ll miss my friends (thank goodness for video calling)…I won’t be missing the gobs of snow we’ve been getting.

Stay tuned…there will be more updates and an attempt at more YouTube videos.
