Je Suis Arrivé

Y’all, can you believe that I’ve finally made it…9 months later, maybe it’s been 10 months? I don’t even know anymore. Who can keep track of anything during this pandemic? And the journey, it was exactly that. It was a journey for sure, one of the longest I’ve ever taken. I think the entire journey was supposed to take about 22+ hours. However, with the airport stuff…I got to wear my mask for a glorious 28 hours.

My flight took off late from Chicago O’hare because we had to de-ice and such. But my layover in Tokyo Narita was about 3.5 hours long, so it was not too big a deal. All I wanted to get at the airport was a Suntory Highball and an onigiri. It wasn’t my favorite flavor, but it still hit the spot. I miss Tokyo. I also had a seafood udon with some beer…because that’s what I came upon first.

To say the least, I am not a great airplane sleeper. In fact, my Fitbit didn’t register any sleeping. But, I did have a whole row to myself and could lay down. The plane was not very full at all. And going to BKK was even less full (I think there was a total 8-10 passengers).

After arriving at the Bangkok International Airport, the whole situation was a little surreal by the time I got to my hotel (2 hours later). The airport and “welcome” staff were all decked out in PPE and gowns…I felt like I was walking into a makeshift hospital tent. It was kind of crazy, but also kind of nice to know they were going through all of this to keep people safe…and the country. And after I got to the hotel, I had to wait into the car and someone walked up to me and checked me in after someone already took all my bags up to the room. After the car, it was straight to the room (where I currently remain right now).

Stay tuned for a quarantine blog. I’d probably try to vlog it (or at least, I should’ve thought about that early (not when I’m 5 days in)). And seriously, watching me do nothing is not thrilling. If you want real-time updates-ish, you can find them in my Instagram story.
