MN State Fair: 2017 Edition (Day Two)

Day Two…how you really do the MN State Fair…with a sh*t ton of people. The math: more people + more money = more foods and drinks. Also, to enjoy the fair in a less-congested manner, we get there as it is opening at 8:00AM (I really want to shouty-caps the time, but it’s really hard to shouty-caps time (in the manner in which I wrote it out…above, so thus, we will just make it bold)). Do you know what an 8:00am arrival means? It means leaving the house between 7:00 and 7:20am. It is Labor Day (basically, the very LAST day of summer. It’s the LAST day of the MN State Fair. So the toss up, sleep versus the fair.

Another reason we were going so early was because one of the fair vendors, The Farmer’s Union, has three new food items and the lines have been long and they’ve been known to run out. We wanted to bypass the line, or at least be in a shorter one, and make sure we get to try the NEW FAIR FOOD (sometimes it’s not food, but maple nitro coffee).

So, I’m not going to talk about what we did…step by step, but I am going to tell you about all the things we ate and drank. Heck, I probably won’t even tell you how they each individually were and will probably just sum it up at the end…because we ate and drank A LOT. I haven’t even counted the items yet.

Let’s start:

  • Blueberry Sweet Corn Eclair
  • Raspberry Mocha Frappe
  • Maple Cream Nitro Cold Brew
  • Big Fat Bacon
  • Fried Olives on a Stick
  • Sparkling Cider Float
  • SPAM Breakfast Sandwich
  • Chicken in a Waffle
  • Triple Truffle Trotter
  • Wild Bill’s Breakfast Bake
  • Cajun Fried Pickles
  • 612Brew: Ligonbery Lager
  • Reuben Pickle Dog
  • Fried Seafood Sampler
  • 612Brew: Wild Rice Dunkel
  • Pork Chop on a Stick
  • Grilled Chicken on a Stick
  • Pie n’ the Sky
  • Summit: Lazy Slipper
  • Summit: Oatmeal Stout
  • Summit: Oktoberfest
  • Hawaiian Pork Fried rice with pineapple wrapped in lefse
  • Apple Cider Freeze
  • Beer Flight: Fruity, Spicy, Funky, Tart
  • Root Beer
  • Miller’s Flavored Cheese Curds sampler bucket
  • Popcorn Shrimp
  • Sconuts
  • Brown Sugar and Bacon Lefse
  • Ligonberry lefse
  • Potato Skins
  • Bauhaus: Shandlot
  • Sweet Land: Cherry Rhubarb Cider
  • Bent Brewstillery: Hungarian Cherry Wheat Ale
  • Cherry Bomb
  • Giant Fried Egg Roll on a Stick
  • Deep Fried Avocado
  • Castle Danger: Grapefruit IPA
  • Socialable Cider Werks: Raspberry Hard Cider
  • Barley John’s Brew Pub: Dill Pickle Beer
  • Duck Bacon Wonton
  • Kemp’s Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Walleye Fries
  • Corn on the Cob
  • Cannon River Winery: Cotton Candy Bubble Trouble
  • Sweet Martha’s Cookies
  • AYCD Milk

And then it started to pour (rain-wise) while we were getting cookies thus signaling that our time at the fair for 2017 was coming to an end. I pretty much looked like a drowned rat by the time I had my cookies and milk together, but there’s no way I would ever sacrifice that and especially after Alex asked so nicely that I go get milk with him so he could properly enjoy his cookies.

Goodbye MN State Fair…until next year.
